Informations

You will find on this page all the instructions to apply for the 8th OSU Doctoral Convention which will take place on Thursday November, 15th 2018 in Mérieux amphitheater at the ENS of Lyon.

Abstract submission

To submit an abstract, you first have to create an account on www.sciencesconf.org and then log in. Please fill the inscription form in addition to the submission form.

The deadline is on 01/11/2018.

You will be asked to provide a 2000 characters abstract maximum, in english if possible. You can also add a figure to illustrate your abstract.

Presentation types

Two types of presentation are possible: oral or poster. They are open for all OSU PhD students. We encourage students already having a printed poster to submit it in addition to a potential oral presentation. At the moment of inscription, you can either ask for an oral presentation, a poster, or leave the organization team to choose for you. You can also submit for an oral AND a poster. Requests will be take into account as far as possible.

Oral presentations

Oral presentations will last 10 minutes maximum, followed by a 5 minutes question session, for a total of 15 minutes per attendee.

Attendees will ensure that their presentation are widely accessible. Presentation language is left at the discretion of the attendee. However, we encourage attendees to speak in french if possible, but to write the slides in english.

A computer will be at your disposal during the convention. Please just send your presentation in advance in PDF format at victor.lherm@ens-lyon.fr.

Posters

Posters size is left to attendee's discretion. Additional instructions for printing are available on the OSU publisher website (http://observatoire.univ-lyon1.fr/infographie-reprographie-posters-790605.kjsp?RH=1392321878834). English is recommended for the poster.

Presentation evaluation

This year, several prizes will be attributed for the finest oral presentations and posters, both by the public and by a board composed of researchers from the CRAL and the LGLTPE. The main criterion for evaluation will be teaching skills. Indeed, this convention aims to support discussions between scientists from different fields (astrophysics, planetology, geodynamics, seismology, paleontology, sedimentology, geochemistry, mineralogy…) and to promote the laboratories research themes to the bachelor and master students. Attendees will make sure to produce didactic presentations, to show pedagogy and cross-disciplinarity, and to introduce their work in a wider context to make it accessible.
